Jean-Philippe Aumasson

Aumasson’s work joins design, cryptanalysis, and explanation. Hash functions and their implementations are widely deployed security components, so public analysis and clear technical documentation are valuable defenses against cargo-cult security.

Jean-Philippe Aumasson is a cryptographer and security researcher whose work includes hash functions and applied cryptography. He is a coauthor of BLAKE2, a hash-function design documented in the IACR ePrint Archive.

Hash functions are used in many security systems, from integrity checks to password-protection constructions and digital-signature protocols. Their use demands careful attention to the security property required, the surrounding protocol, and the implementation.

Aumasson also wrote Serious Cryptography, a technical book intended to explain contemporary cryptographic concepts and practice. His professional profile at Kudelski Security documents his security-research career.

He is included for both research contributions and public-facing technical education in applied cryptography.
