Kaisa Nyberg
Nyberg's career links mathematical cryptology to deployed mobile and Bluetooth security. Her research and mentoring helped establish cryptography as a sustained academic field in Finland.
From mathematics to cryptology
Kaisa Nyberg is a Finnish cryptographer and professor emerita at Aalto University. Aalto records that she began cryptography research with the Finnish Defence Forces in 1987, later worked at Nokia, and joined the Helsinki University of Technology faculty in 2005.
Mobile security and academic leadership
Aalto credits Nyberg and N. Asokan with a Bluetooth pairing method developed at Nokia and standardized with Microsoft cryptologists. Her institutional profile records her leadership of Aalto's cryptography research group through 2016. Her work on the properties of Boolean functions and on applied protocols connects mathematical analysis to the security of deployed systems.
