Mitsuru Matsui
Linear cryptanalysis became one of the standard general techniques for evaluating block ciphers. Matsui's work helped turn cryptanalysis into an empirical discipline that can expose weaknesses before a primitive becomes infrastructure.
Linear cryptanalysis
Mitsuru Matsui is a cryptographer at Mitsubishi Electric. Japan's Patent Office describes his development of linear cryptanalysis and his experimental break of the then-U.S. encryption standard DES. Linear and differential cryptanalysis are now foundational approaches for analysing many block ciphers.
Applied cipher design
Mitsubishi Electric's technical publications identify Matsui as a contributor to MISTY, KASUMI and Camellia cipher development. These projects connect basic cryptanalytic research with the design and standardization of cryptography for communications systems.
