Tanja Lange

Lange connects mathematical cryptography with deployable software and long-term security research. Her work is useful to this history because it shows how modern security is built through careful algorithm design, implementation study, and open research collaboration.

Tanja Lange is a professor at Eindhoven University of Technology whose research combines cryptography and number theory. TU/e identifies her as chair of its Coding Theory and Cryptology group and as scientific director of the Eindhoven Institute for the Protection of Systems and Information.

Her work includes curve-based cryptography and post-quantum cryptography. These areas matter for security engineering because they connect mathematical assumptions to the performance, implementation, and migration questions faced by real systems.

Lange has also contributed to open cryptographic benchmarking through SUPERCOP. That kind of reproducible measurement is an important part of security practice: claims about a primitive need to be compared on actual platforms, not only stated abstractly.

Her career illustrates the continuing role of academic cryptography in evaluating and preparing the technical foundations of secure communication.
